General Situation, Problems of Yozgat Orchards and Suggestions

Field crops such as barley, wheat, sugar beet and geen lentils constituted the largest share of agricultural activities in Yozgat province which majority of livelihood is agriculture. Converge and extend of horticultural crops and their cultivation is very important for earn higher income than the unit area and upraise the welfare level of rural life. Orcharding is one of the most important production branches of horticultural crops. Yozgat, which has the 5th largest agricultural area of our country which is the gene center of many species and varieties, has a disadvantageous situation due to some of the features it has, although its high potential for fruit growing. In the region where terrestrial climatic conditions prevail, problems are experienced in terms of cultivation due to some soil characteristics and insufficiency of qualified personnel in fruit growing and the existing potential is not fully utilized. In the province where fruit species such as apple, sweet cherry, pear, walnut and sour cherry are cultivated intensively, some innovative approaches should be applied to increase production and to eliminate existing problems.   In this review fruit growing in Yozgat district will be discussed and the information about current problems and managments for coping with the problems will be presented.
