Estetik, güzellik bilimi ya da doğanın armonisini öğrenme olarak tanımlanır ve estetik, doğadaki düzenden ve bu düzenin bireyde oluşturduğu memnuniyet duygusundan elde edilir. Peyzaj estetiği ise onu oluşturan bir öğeden değil,  peyzajın bütününden ve peyzaja bakanın ürettiği duyusal verilerden kaynaklanır. Bu nedenle peyzajdaki estetik; kişinin baktığı peyzajdan duyduğu memnuniyet tatmini olarak tanımlanır. Peyzaj estetiği ile peyzajı oluşturan elemanların bütününün oluşturduğu görsel kalite arasında güçlü bir bağ olduğu görülmektedir. Bu bağlamda peyzaj mimarları için, anlaşılması gereken iki bileşen; estetik deneyim ve estetik deneyimini tetikleyen estetik nesnelerdir. Bu nedenle çalışma iki aşamalı kurgulandı: ilk aşamada estetik deneyim ve peyzaj estetiğinin nasıl değerlendirileceği üzerinde durulurken, ikinci aşamada ise kullanıcının peyzajdaki estetik deneyimini, tasarımcının nasıl yönlendirebileceği peyzaj siluetleri üzerinden tartışıldı.  Sonuç olarak, estetik olarak başarılı siluetlerin özellikleri ortaya koyuldu.
