Abstract

To evaluate and compare choroidal thickness in patients with PPR (papulopustular rosacea) and healthy controls. Methods: In this prospective, cross-sectional study, thirty eyes of 30 patients with PPR and 30 eyes of 30 age- and sex-matched healthy subjects were enrolled. The choroidal thickness measurements of the subjects were obtained using spectral domain optical coherence tomography (Heidelberg Spectralis OCT). Choroidal thickness (CT) at three defined points (subfoveal [sfCT] ,1000 μm  [N1000] and  1000 μm [T1000] from the centre of the fovea) were measured. Results: Choroidal thicknesses at subfoveal region were 352,02 ± 77,94 μm and 345,97 ± 83,01 μm; at 1000 μm nasally were 322,50 ± 72,32 μm   and 313,65±80,17 μm; at 1000 μm temporally 325,24 ± 71,01 μm and 309,24 ± 66,89 μm in the PPR and control groups, respectively . Choroidal thicknesses were thicker at all measurement location but this was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrated that choroidal thickness increases in patients with PPR. These choroidal changes might be related to the elevating blood cytokine levels.
