Abstract
Today, the number of dialysis units that can meet the needs of kidney patients, in parallel with this, qualified staff in the sector his need is increasing day by day. In order to meet this need, dialysis programs have been opened within the University. The aim of these associate degree programs is to educate the health technicians who will work in the dialysis units in the stages of taking the hemodialysis treatment to the dialysis machine, terminating the follow-up and terminating the dialysis operations.
The regulation on dialysis centers is a legislation published by the Ministry of Health which regulates opening of a center where dialysis treatment can be given in private, public and university hospitals in our country and working conditions. To date, in 1993, 1998, 2005 and 2010, regulations regarding dialysis centers have been rearranged and published in order to be able to adapt to the increasing rate of dialysis device and dialysis center in line with the increase in the number of dialysis patients in the country. According to these regulations, certified nurses and health officers were defined as non-physician health personnel until 2010. The dialysis technicians started to work in the dialysis units according to the regulation published in 2010 for the first time. From this date, foundation universities and vocational colleges of health have started to open dialysis departments rapidly. According to statistical figures of the student selection placement institution, the number of school quotas has increased exponentially over the years. The dialysis department is trained to work only in the dialysis unit of graduates. In addition, the dialysis technicians had to start directly to health vocational schools after the high school education, the education standards were not the same in every school, the limitations in hospital applications and the number of graduates of the dialysis department increased.
In this study, the problems that the dialysis technicians experienced during the education period and after graduation were
researched and solution proposals were presented.
