Abstract
LEDs that emit blue light are needed to create white light using LEDs. In 1991, Japanese scientists Isamu Akasaki, Hirochi Amano and Shuji Nakamura invented LEDs that emit blue light. From this date it became possible to use the LEDs as lighting elements. Rapidly developing LED luminaires have taken an important place in the lighting industry. LED luminaires, with their high electrical efficiency and long life span, have become very popular especially in high ceiling applications and street lighting.
Sports halls are facilities where intensive activities are carried out due to the fact that they host local, national and international competitions. In order to carry out these intensive activities as planned, it is essential to equip the plants with problem-free
running systems. Sports hall lighting is a specialized form of high ceiling lighting applications. Providing visual comfort for healthy sports events and providing long-term usage times is an important area of work for ensuring efficiency in energy consumption. In addition, considering the possible failure situations that may occur and the problems that may be caused by periodic maintenance activities, the depth of the work to be done on sports hall lighting systems can be increased.
This study was carried out within the scope of renewal activities of Yakacık İTO Sports Hall lighting system in 2015. In the scope of the study, the use of LED luminaires is planned. The lighting system is designed in computer environment in 3D and the system designed with existing luminaires are compared in terms of technical and economic aspects.
It was decided that the LED lighting system would be more advantageous from the technical and economical point of view and the sports hall lighting system was converted into LED. It has been found that the lighting system consumes less energy than the old system, with a brightness level above the average of 500 lx brightness required to play the games, and a homogenous lighting system.
