A RESEARCH ON STUDENTS 'EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE LEVELS

Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the level of emotional intelligence and emotional intelligence levels that university students have. The concept of emotional intelligence was first revealed by Mayer and Salovey. Researchers describe emotional intelligence as a form of social intelligence that includes the ability to observe one's own and others' emotions, to distinguish them, and to use this knowledge as a guide to their thinking and behavior (Mayer & Salovey, 1993). Quantitative methods were used in the research. The emotional intelligence levels of the students were measured by the Schutte Emotional Intelligence Scale. Research questionnaires were obtained from 270 students of Pamukkale University by using sampling method easily. Independent Samples T-Test and One-Way ANOVA Analyzes were applied to determine the opinions of emotional intelligence levels. The findings of the research showed that the levels of emotional intelligence of the students; sex, divisions they read, social and cultural activities. However, it was determined that the emotional intelligence levels of the students did not differ according to age, school, family income and the region where they live.
