Abstract
High rise buildings are a type of structure that depends on many things such as rapid urbanization, population growth,
high land prices, transportation problems, prestige concerns, development in construction and material technology. In these
structures that shape the silhouette of today's cities, as the building height increases, many physical, social, economic, cultural
and technological parameters are determinative in design. In this study, parameters affecting high rise building design are
analyzed based on scientific studies, standards and regulations. Numerous variables influence the design of the building, but this
study is limited to urban criteria. Urban criteria are divided into subheadings as topography, ground, natural resources, silhouette,
urban texture and location. In the world, high rise buildings made in accordance with these rules and high rise buildings
incompatible with the rules are exemplified. As a result; it is aimed to determine the points that should be known by the architect
in the context of urban criteria in the design of high rise buildings.
