An Intelligent Shelf System Design and Ergonomic Analysis by using CATIA Software

Abstract

Ergonomics is the process of designing or arranging workplaces, products and systems so that they fit the people who use them. Ergonomics is a branch of science that aims to learn about human abilities and limitations, and then apply this learning to improve people’s interaction with products, systems and environments. It is to create safe, comfortable and productive workspaces by bringing human abilities and limitations into the design of a workspace, including the individual’s body size, strength, skill, speed, sensory abilities (vision, hearing), and even attitudes. With the technological improvements and ergonomic considerations, shelf systems of many different products have emerged and intelligent shelf systems have become popular. In this study, an intelligent shelf system is designed by using CATIA Software that is one of the mostly used in solid modelling in industry. After intelligent shelf system design, ergonomic analysis of the proposed shelf desing is carried by the software CATIA. According to the pre-results of the design of the intelligent shelf system, necessary changes are performed to obtain more ergonomic results.By this way, the design of the proposed intelligent shelf system design is optimized and better ergonomic results are obtained. Therefore both of the functional system requirements and ergonomic usage projection are succeded for the intelligent shelf system design.
