Abstract
Due to the population growth, the use and management of natural resources has been one of the most important issues while ecological studies are gaining importance. In this context, the use and management of water which is the main source of life has had a major importance in ecological studies. Therefore, new methods are being developed in areas such as determination of land use and land cover of wetlands, determination of natural or artificial factors affecting changes in land surface, coastline change analysis.
The development of technology has led to the development of imaging systems. As a result, satellite imagery which have bands at different resolutions and different wavelengths, provides access to high accuracy result in wetland studies. New algorithms for the evaluation and classification of satellite imagery have been developed and continue to be developed. In recent studies, artificial intelligence techniques take the place of classical image classification methods. There are many studies in the literature about these algorithms and their comparisons. In this study, the applications of coastal area detection in recent years and image classification algorithms used in these applications have been investigated.
