"english_title": "The Role of Public Health Nurses in Helping LGBT Individuals Maintain Healthy Lives",
"english_abstract": "LGBT individuals do not have health needs that are different from other individuals. Although many LGBT individuals effectively utilize healthcare services, many delay or avoid seeking treatment due to stigma, social isolation, violence, and discrimination experienced because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. When LGBT individuals are subjected to discrimination, mental health problems such as stress, anxiety, and depression arise. The prevalence of mental health problems among LGBT individuals is significantly higher than among other individuals. In their social lives, LGBT individuals are subjected to physical and verbal violence. Due to the discrimination and accusations they face because of their sexual orientation, LGBT individuals refrain from obtaining health-related information from nurses, even at the cost of losing their well-being. Public health nurses, who play a significant role in preventive health services, should have sufficient knowledge about the basic health problems of LGBT individuals and should approach LGBT individuals in accordance with their nursing roles, assess and diagnose their health risks, and take action based on the results of these risk assessments. A more sensitive and non-generalized approach should be taken towards LGBT individuals regarding cancer screenings and sexually transmitted disease vaccinations, which constitute a significant part of preventive health services. These individuals should be encouraged and incentivized for early diagnosis awareness, screenings, and preventive health services.",
