Abstract

An Examination and Implementation Study of Individual Financial Planning Counseling from the Perspective of Financial Consumers

The aim of the research is to determine the financial needs, consulting preferences and the levels of perception of personal financial planning consultancy of the consumer profiles in Turkey. A survey developed in our study for this purpose was conducted. The online survey using Google Forms platform was conducted with 1,000 participants. It consisted of 50 questions and three parts: demographic characteristics, a financial information form and a personal financial planning consultancy scale. The survey results were analyzed using various statistical techniques (descriptive analysis, factor analysis, hypothesis testing, etc.). The findings of the survey showed that consumers need to work with a personal financial planner and prefer a comprehensive approach rather than a modular approach to personal financial consultancy services. It was determined that consumers' perceptions of personal financial planning were above the medium level and showed a positive tendency. The other aim of the research was to make suggestions to solve the problems arising from internal and external factors as a result of the evaluation of comprehensive personal financial planning consultancy by the SWOT analysis method. The most important finding of the SWOT analysis, which was conducted by using document analysis and interview technique, was the necessity for detailed legislation and legal regulations for both the field of personal finance and certified financial planners.
