Turizmde Sürdürülebilirlik Ve Otel İşletmelerinin Sürdürülebilirlik Çalışmalarının İncelenmesi

Turizmde sürdürülebilirlik, turizm faaliyetlerinden kaynaklanan sosyal ve ekonomik etkilerin ve sektörün gelişimiyle oluşan çevresel etkilerin bütüncül bir şekilde göz önünde bulundurularak izlenmesi gereken bir yoldur. Buna bağlı olarak bir turizm sektörü olan otel işletmeleri devamlılıklarını sağlayabilmek için, gelecek için bugünden çalışarak çevresel, sosyal ve ekonomik faaliyetlerini bir bütün olarak yerine getirmelidir. Bu araştırmanın amacı otellerin sürdürülebilirlik çalışmaları olarak sundukları sürdürülebilirlik raporlarını inceleyerek, turizmde sürdürülebilirlikle alakalı yapılan faaliyetleri bulmak adına; otel işletmelerinde sürdürülebilirlik için nelerin yapıldığını tespit etmek ve bu bağlamda hangi konulara önem verildiğini gözlemlemektir. Araştırma kapsamında, Türkiye’de faaliyet gösteren tüm otel işletmelerinin web sayfalarından elde edilen sürdürülebilirlik raporları içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak uluslararası raporlama çerçevelerinden Ulusal Raporlama Girişimi (GRI)’ne bağlı kalınarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmada içerik analizi için Nvivo12 paket programı kullanılarak raporlarda en çok hangi kelimelerin kullanıldığı tespit edilmiş ve görsel açıdan desteklemek için kelime bulutları sunulmuştur.   Araştırma sonucunda, analiz edilen raporlarda en çok tekrar edilen kelimelerin çevresel faktörlere tabi olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Raporlarda ekonomik ve sosyal anlamda kullanılan kelimelerin az sayıda geçtiği gözlemlenmiştir. Buna göre Türkiye’de bulunan otel işletmelerinin raporlarında sürdürülebilirlik ölçütlerinin tamamının dikkate alınmadığı tespit edilmiştir. 

Sustainability in tourism is a path to be followed in consideration of social and economic impacts of tourism activities and environmental impacts caused by the development of the sector. Consequently, hotel management enterprises, which are involved in the tourism sector, must carry out their environmental, social and economic activities as a whole in order to ensure their continuity by working today for the future. The aim of this research is to identify the attempts made for sustainability in hotel management enterprises and observe the matters to which importance is attached in this respect, for the purposes of determining the activities carried out in tourism in relation to sustainability by analysing the sustainability reports submitted by hotels as their sustainability activities. Within the scope of the research, sustainability reports acquired through the web pages of all hotel management enterprises operating in Turkey are analysed by means of content analysis method in compliance with the Global Reporting Initiative which is one of the international reporting frameworks. The most frequently used words in the reports are identified by means of Nvivo12 software package for content analysis in the research, and word clouds are provided for visual support. In consequence of the research, it is determined that the most repeated words in the analysed reports are subject to environmental factors. It is observed that, in the reports, there are few words used in the economic and social sense. Accordingly, it is noted that not all of the sustainability criteria are taken into account in the reports of hotel management enterprises in Turkey.
